| Metro Council for Teen Potential is a membership organization that pursues five key strategies to promote youth health and youth assets in the City of Rochester. Our members include the City of Rochester, the Monroe County Health Department, the City County Youth Bureau, the City School District, and many youth development organizations, youth health organizations, faith groups, colleges and concerned citizens. 1. Best Practices For Youth Development and Youth Health • Staff training and staff coaching in best practice models • Program evaluation • Program coordination and linkages • Networking opportunities • Investigation of “what works” • Coordination of grant funding proposals • Coordination of parent-child communication workshops 2. Health Communications with Young People and Parents • What's Next video project and curriculum • Development of health curriculum with Rochester City School District • Wallet-sized cards with resource referral information • Speakers’ bureau for youth groups and faith groups • Youth-made / youth-led public service announcements and media messages 3. Needs Assessment Data • Focus groups • Interviews with key leaders • Reporting on local youth health trends 4. Promotion of Youth Leadership • Connecting youth groups to Youth Voice One Vision, led by City Department of Recreation & Youth Services, and other leadership opportunities 5. Public Policy and Community Engagement • Annual meeting and annual report • Presentations to community leaders and community groups • Publication of MCTP Reports on a variety of topics • Distribution of newsletter to 1700 teachers, youth workers and community leaders • Participation on HEART Coalition for a Drug-Free Rochester |
